Being a Catholic, I truly believe in the teachings, the doctrine of Jesus Christ. Jesus taught us to love. That is the one greatest commandment, and encompasses a lot. If you ever stop to think about the awesome responsibility and the task of being a Catholic, it is huge. The point is that as Catholics we must be tolerant, we can have our beliefs, we can speak out at the appropriate times, but we must be compassionate and love all people. Catholics can accomplish more by following the doctrine of Jesus than by trying to be heard. Jesus spoke quietly with parables and did not make a lot of noise; He loved people and was compassionate to all, regardless. The students and faculty of Notre Dame hopefully will be compassionate and respectful of our President this weekend. They can accomplish more by following the teachings of Jesus than by trying to be heard and making noise.
There are many social and moral issues which divide our world, but that is what is so great about my religion, my faith, my being a Catholic. I am compelled to love you no matter what our differences are. Love is all encompassing. Love means being tolerant, being giving, being respectful. It does not mean not having my own moral beliefs, but we should try and change the world through love and not a bunch of noise.
